Thank you for your interest in our research study PSAS for Black Girls!

The goal of PSAS for Black Girls is to develop a survey that captures the positive sexuality experiences of Black adolescent girls and young women in California. By "sexuality" we mean all aspects of sexual behavior, including gender identity, orientation, attitudes, and activity. We are hosting focus groups to understand how Black girls think about their sexuality and how that relates to an existing survey on adolescent positive sexuality. If you are chosen to participate, you will be asked to participate in a 90-minute focus group with other youth like you. The focus group will take place either virtually or in person. An in person focus group would be held at a local Bay Area community space, while a virtual focus group would occur on Zoom. Please note that participants will be required to have their camera on during virtual focus groups. If you choose to take part in a focus group, you will participate in discussions that include sensitive topics such as your sexuality, sexual health, and intimate relationship experiences.

You will receive compensation for your participation in the PSAS for Black Girls study.

If you choose to attend a focus group, you will be extended an opportunity to also participate in a follow up focus group that will occur in 3-6 months. You will be compensated for this follow up focus group. The research team will reach out to you via email or phone to inform you of this opportunity.

Interested in joining the study? Please answer the following questions as part of the study screening process to see whether you are eligible to participate. It takes about 5 minutes to complete, and you are welcome to reach out to our study team with any questions you may have. If you are a good fit for one of our focus groups, a member of the team will reach out to you via phone or email to describe next steps.

If you have any questions or concerns about the study, you may contact the research team via email (girlxlab@ucsf.edu) or telephone (510) 473-2967. If you have any questions or concerns about your rights as a participant, you may also contact the UCSF Institutional Review Board at 415-476-1814.
